Call up any article from about a year or two ago about maintaining a good, responsible credit score, and you are likely to find that for the most part, a credit score of 680 was always the magic number. If you had that, it was proof that you had been a good kid. You were someone who paid all your bills right on time, had a little minor mishap when you went making inquiries about a refinance, but in general, you were on solid ground. For the most part, credit reports are completely free, while credit scores, those numbers that reflect all the goings-on on your credit reports, cost you about $15. Now most consumers aren't too happy paying this (note the popularity of the "free credit score" search on any search engine); but they still do. It gives them an important bit of insight into their financial future.
